As a Perth local, I know exactly what this climate does to your skin. Most of my weekends are spent dodging the sun rather than soaking it up — walking the dogs at the park, strolling through Freo markets, or just hiding at home with the hubby and the furkids. And even then, the dryness, the UV, the wind off the coast — it all adds up.
After years working in busy salons and now running TGS Beauty & Skin in Hammond Park, I've seen what Perth skin actually needs. And it's not a 12-step routine from a shelf full of products you don't understand. It's a simple, consistent routine built around what your skin is actually doing.
Here's what I recommend to my clients.
Morning — protect and prepare
Your morning routine has one non-negotiable: SPF. Everything else supports that.
-
Step 1 — Cleanse A gentle cleanse to start the day fresh. I love the DermaFix Gentle Cleaning Gel — it removes overnight buildup without stripping the skin barrier.
-
Step 2 — Tone A hydrating toner like the DermaFix Revitalising Toner helps rebalance your skin's pH and preps it to absorb everything that follows.
-
Step 3 — Vitamin C serum This is the step most Perth clients skip — and they shouldn't. A Vitamin C serum in the morning protects against environmental damage and brightens over time. The DermaFix Ferulic + Vitamin C + E is my go-to.
-
Step 4 — Moisturise Something lightweight that absorbs quickly. The DermaFix Bio-Hydrating Cream is ideal for Perth's climate — hydrating without feeling heavy.
-
Step 5 — SPF (non-negotiable) Perth's UV index is no joke. I recommend the Mother SPF Mineral Matte Tinted SPF 50 — it protects, it blurs, and it works as a light tinted base. No excuses for skipping this one.
Evening — repair and restore
Your evening routine is where the real skin work happens. This is when your skin repairs itself — so give it the right support.
Step 1 — Double cleanse Start with the DermaFix Gentle Cleaning Gel to remove SPF, makeup and the day's pollution. Then cleanse again. One cleanse after a full day of SPF and makeup is rarely enough.
Step 2 — Tone Same as morning — the DermaFix Revitalising Toner removes any remaining residue and rebalances before your actives.
Step 3 — Active treatment (2–3 nights a week) This is where you target your specific concerns — pigmentation, texture, fine lines, congestion. I'll recommend what's right for your skin at your consultation, but the DermaFix ACC Retinol+ or Vitamin A Propionate are two I use regularly with clients.
Step 4 — Hydrating serum Lock in moisture with a hyaluronic acid serum. The DermaFix ACC Hyaluronic Gel is lightweight, deeply hydrating and works beautifully under your moisturiser.
Step 5 — Night moisturiser Slightly richer than your morning cream. Your skin does most of its repair work overnight — give it the barrier support it needs.
A note on customising your routine
This is a starting point — not a prescription. Every client I see has different skin, a different lifestyle and a different budget. What works brilliantly for one person might be completely wrong for another.
That's why every skin treatment at TGS starts with a proper consultation. I look at what you're using, what's working, what isn't, and what your skin actually needs — not what an algorithm suggested or what's trending on TikTok.
Dry skin: You need richer textures and barrier support. Don't skip the night moisturiser.
Oily or congested skin: Lighter textures, but don't cut out moisture — dehydrated oily skin overproduces oil to compensate.
Sensitive skin: Fragrance-free, fewer actives, and introduce anything new slowly. One new product at a time.
Combination skin: Zone it. Your T-zone and your cheeks often need different things.
My five rules for Perth skin
- SPF every single day — even in winter, even when it's overcast, even when you're just driving. Mother SPF makes this easy.
- Hydrate from the outside in — Perth's climate is dehydrating. Layer your hydration (serum then moisturiser) rather than relying on one heavy cream.
- Simplify before you add — if your routine has ten steps and your skin is still unhappy, the answer is rarely an eleventh step.
- Book a facial — not because you have to, but because a monthly or six-weekly treatment accelerates everything you're doing at home. The Signature Enzyme Treatment is the best reset I know for dull, tired Perth skin.
- Get your routine assessed by a professional — I offer a full skin consultation with every first skin treatment at TGS. We'll look at what you're using, what's missing and what we can simplify.
Want a routine that's actually built for your skin?
If you're not sure where to start — or you've been buying products that aren't working — a skin consultation is the best first step. It's included with your first skin treatment at TGS, or available as a standalone appointment if you're not ready to commit to a facial just yet.
I work with one client at a time, by appointment only, from my studio in Hammond Park — serving Hammond Park, Cockburn, Atwell, Aubin Grove and the surrounding area.
xx Jess
