Waxing doesn't get as much airtime as brow lamination or lash lifts — but for a lot of my clients, it's the appointment they rebook most consistently. Every four to six weeks, without fail.
And I get it. When waxing is done properly — with the right products, the right technique and actual care taken around your skin — it's one of the most effective, low-maintenance hair removal options available. No daily shaving, no irritation, no missed patches. Just smooth, clean skin that lasts.
Here's what professional waxing at TGS looks like, and what you need to know before you book.
Why clients keep coming back to waxing
There are plenty of hair removal options out there — shaving, laser, IPL, depilatory creams. And they all have their place. But waxing consistently comes out ahead for most of my clients for a few simple reasons:
Results last. Most clients get 4–6 weeks of smooth skin between appointments. Shaving lasts days. Even a week if you're lucky.
Regrowth improves over time. With regular waxing, hairs grow back finer and softer. Clients who've been waxing consistently for a year or two often notice their regrowth is significantly less dense than when they started.
It exfoliates as it goes. Waxing removes the top layer of dead skin along with the hair, which is why skin often looks and feels noticeably smoother and more polished after an appointment.
It's cost-effective compared to laser. Laser can be effective for some clients — but it's expensive upfront, requires multiple sessions and doesn't work for all skin tones and hair types. It's also worth knowing that laser results aren't always permanent — hormonal changes like pregnancy, postpartum shifts and teenage growth spurts can cause significant hair regrowth even after successful laser treatment. For clients who haven't had children yet or are still in their teens, waxing often makes more practical sense as a long-term investment. You get comparable smoothness without committing thousands of dollars to results that hormones could reverse anyway.

Before your appointment — pre-care
A little preparation goes a long way toward a more comfortable appointment and a cleaner result.
In the days before:
- Let hair grow to at least 5mm — roughly two weeks of growth after shaving. Longer is fine, shorter makes the wax less effective
- Exfoliate gently 24 hours before — this helps prevent ingrown hairs and gives the wax a cleaner surface to work with. Skip acids and active scrubs on the day itself
- Avoid applying creams, oils or fake tan to the area on the day of your appointment
- Stay well hydrated — it genuinely helps
Avoid waxing if:
- You've used Roaccutane in the past 6–12 months — the skin is significantly more fragile and waxing can cause damage
- You're using Retin-A or prescription topicals on the area — stop these at least 5 days before
- The skin in the area is broken, sunburned or actively irritated
If you're unsure about any of these, mention it when you book or get in touch beforehand.
After your appointment — aftercare
Your skin needs a little breathing room after waxing — particularly in the first 24 hours when pores are open and skin is more sensitive.
First 24 hours:
- Avoid heat — no gym, sauna, hot bath or sunbathing
- Wear loose, breathable clothing — friction and tight fabric can cause irritation
- No fake tan, perfumed products or anything active on the waxed area
- Skip swimming — chlorine and bacteria in open pores is not a good combination
Ongoing:
- Exfoliate gently 2–3 times a week from 48 hours after your appointment — this is the single most effective thing you can do to prevent ingrown hairs
- Moisturise regularly with a gentle, fragrance-free product
- Book your next appointment at 4–6 weeks for the best ongoing results
Frequently asked questions
How long does my hair need to be? At least 5mm — roughly two weeks of growth after shaving. If it's shorter than that, the wax can't grip the hair properly.
Is a Brazilian wax painful? It's uncomfortable — I won't pretend otherwise. But the level of discomfort varies a lot between clients and significantly reduces with regular waxing. First-timers are often surprised it's less bad than they expected.
Can I wax while pregnant? Yes — many pregnant clients wax regularly and it's generally safe. Skin can be more sensitive during pregnancy so there may be slightly more redness than usual, but it settles quickly. Let me know when you book and I'll take extra care.
Can I wax if I'm using active skincare? It depends on what you're using. Retinol and prescription topicals need to be stopped 5 days before. Standard moisturisers and gentle cleansers are fine. If you're unsure, list what you're using when you book.
Can I wax while on Roaccutane? No — not during treatment and for at least 6 months after finishing. Roaccutane significantly affects skin integrity and waxing can cause real damage. Please wait until you're fully clear.
How often should I book? Every 4–6 weeks for most clients. Consistency is key — regular waxing leads to finer regrowth and easier, more comfortable appointments over time.
Can I combine waxing with other services? Yes — waxing pairs well with brow, lash and skin appointments. Facial waxing add-ons can be added to almost any appointment. Body waxing add-ons can be added to a Brazilian or leg wax during booking.
