Perth winters are deceptively harsh on skin. It doesn't get freezing — but the combination of cold winds, indoor heating and lower humidity quietly strips moisture from your skin in a way that creeps up on you. By mid-winter, clients come in saying their skin feels tight, looks dull and nothing they're doing at home seems to be working anymore.

The good news is that winter skin is usually a routine problem, not a product problem. A few targeted adjustments make a significant difference. Here are the five essentials I recommend to every Perth client heading into the cooler months.

1. Switch to a gentler cleanser

If your cleanser is stripping your skin in summer, it's absolutely stripping it in winter. The cold months are the time to dial back any foaming or clarifying cleansers and switch to something more nourishing.

The DermaFix Hydra-Silk Cleanser is the one I recommend most often for winter — it removes impurities without disturbing the skin barrier, and the Aloe Vera and Hyaluronic Acid formula leaves skin feeling clean but not tight.

Use lukewarm water, not hot — hot water strips the skin's natural oils faster than almost anything else.

2. Add a hyaluronic acid serum if you're not already using one

Hyaluronic acid draws water into the skin and holds it there — and in winter when the air is drier, your skin loses moisture faster than it can replace it. A hyaluronic serum applied morning and night makes a noticeable difference to how plump and comfortable your skin feels.

The DermaFix ACC Hyaluronic Gel is lightweight enough to layer under your moisturiser without feeling heavy. Apply it to slightly damp skin for best results — it needs moisture to work with.

3. Upgrade your moisturiser

Your summer moisturiser probably isn't rich enough for winter. If your skin is feeling tight by mid-afternoon despite moisturising in the morning, it's a sign your barrier needs more support.

The DermaFix Ceramide Complex is the one I reach for in winter — a rich moisturiser that strengthens the skin's natural barrier with ceramides, peptides, apple stem cells and hyaluronic acid. It seals in everything you've applied underneath and prevents the moisture loss that makes skin look dull and feel uncomfortable in cold weather.

Layer it over your serum while skin is still slightly damp.

4. Keep wearing SPF — yes, even in winter

UVA rays are present year-round regardless of cloud cover or temperature. They're the rays responsible for accelerated ageing and pigmentation — and they penetrate glass, which means your morning commute counts too.

The Mother SPF Mineral Matte Tinted SPF 50 is the one I recommend to every client for daily use — it's lightweight, blurs the skin slightly and works beautifully under makeup or alone. Apply every morning as the last step in your routine before makeup.

If you're not wearing SPF daily, every other product in your routine is working against ongoing damage that's still being done.

5. Book a skin reset

Sometimes your routine is doing everything right and your skin just needs a professional treatment to get back on track. Winter is actually one of the best times to book a facial — there's no risk of sun exposure immediately after treatment, and your skin responds well to more active ingredients when UV levels are lower.

For dull, dehydrated or congested winter skin, the Signature Enzyme Treatment is my most recommended starting point — it brightens, hydrates and restores glow without any downtime. The Flawless Complexion Treatment adds an alkaline exfoliation step and peach fuzz removal for skin that needs a more thorough reset.

Both are available to new and returning clients and include a full skin consultation at your first appointment.
